A total lunar eclipse will be visible throughout South Africa on June 15. This is rare ocurrance when the Sun, Earth and Moon are all aligned, causing Earth to cast a dark shadow onto the surface of the moon. The eclipse will begin at 9.22pm and will emerge from shadow at 11.03pm. Don’t miss it – the next one will only be in September 2015.
Volunteers from the SAAO will be going on a hike up Lion’s Head to witness the eclipse if the weather permits and the public is invited to join them just before the moon rises at about 17:30.
